Patriots Dominate Eagles 6-1 in Sweep, Victory as Sweet as Cheesecake!

In a dominant display of skill, the Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots triumphed over the Wayne Christian Eagles 6-1 on Thursday night in Kinston, NC, pushing their flawless record to 6-0. This victory also marked their seventh consecutive win against the Eagles, reinforcing their mastery over their rival. After a thrilling 15-11 win over Wayne Christian just two days prior in Goldsboro, the Patriots came out swinging in the rematch, delivering another decisive performance that left no doubt about their superiority.

Jarrett Mooring was the undisputed star of the night, delivering a stellar performance on the mound. Starting for the Patriots, Mooring was nearly untouchable, pitching 6.1 innings of near-perfect baseball. He allowed just five hits and one run, walked only one batter, and struck out three. With each inning, he seemed to get stronger, pounding the strike zone and keeping the Eagles off balance. His dominant showing gave the defense confidence, allowing them to execute flawlessly behind him.

Offensively, the Patriots were just as lethal. Jojo Ferebee led the charge, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, including a booming double in the fourth inning that ignited the Patriots' offense. Jaylen Solomon added a solid 2-for-3 performance, walking once and driving in a run to help extend the lead. Tanner Outlaw, who has been on fire all season, proved a nightmare for the Eagles' pitchers, drawing three walks and making an impact at every turn. In a key moment in the sixth inning, Outlaw executed a perfect sacrifice bunt, but a misthrow by the pitcher allowed him to reach second base and score, adding insult to injury for the Eagles.

The Patriots’ patience at the plate was their weapon of choice, as they drew an incredible 11 walks during the game. Wayne Christian’s pitchers were constantly under pressure, facing a lineup that refused to back down. But it wasn’t just the offense that stood out—the Patriots' defense was spectacular as well. The team turned three critical double plays, each one shutting down any hopes the Eagles had of mounting a comeback.

  • In the second inning, Solomon made an incredible diving catch and doubled off the runner at second.

  • In the fifth, Cade Mixon snagged a blooper in short left field before turning a clutch double play at first.

  • Then, in the seventh, Outlaw sealed the win with a poised double play, stepping on third and firing to first for the final out.

Head coach Robert Kravitz was thrilled with the team’s all-around effort.

“Jarrett did a heck of a job on the mound for us, pounded the zone, and gave the defense an opportunity to make plays,” Kravitz said. “Overall, just a great team game… these guys are unselfish, they’re good, they love each other, they’re a fun team to be around, and I’m just happy for them.”

Cade Mixon, who closed out the game with the final two outs, stayed focused when asked about his approach:

“Look at the scoreboard and pitch with a lead. We’re up five, and I’ve got room for error, but minimize the error and just pitch like I’ve been there before.”

With this commanding victory, the Patriots are riding high and looking forward to three tough games next week. They’ll face Epiphany on Monday, return home to challenge St. David’s on Tuesday, and wrap up the week with a showdown against Bethel Christian on Friday. Confidence is high, and with their talent, drive, and unbreakable unity, the Patriots are looking nearly unstoppable as they continue their pursuit of greatness.

In a strange twist during the game, Wayne Christian’s players started shouting "Cheesecake!" while the Patriots were pitching, possibly trying to throw them off balance. Curious about the distraction, I asked Cade Mixon what his favorite cheesecake flavor was. With a grin, he calmly replied:

"I'm going with original."

Just like his choice of cheesecake, Cade and his teammates are sticking with what works—reliable and always a winner.
