Bethel Christian Academy Softball Defeats Jones Senior 14-2 in Five Innings

The Bethel Christian Academy Trojans hosted the Jones Senior Trojans on the softball field Friday evening in Kinston, NC, and dominated the game with a 14-2 victory in five innings. This win follows their previous matchup on March 3, where Bethel also triumphed 20-7. With the win, Bethel improves to 3-2 on the season, while Jones falls to 2-3. Bethel was coming off a 6-1 loss to Wilson Christian the previous evening, while Jones had just defeated Liberty Christian 11-1.

Emersyn Smith started and earned the win for Bethel, pitching all five innings while allowing four hits, two runs, one walk, and striking out five. Payten Plyler started for Jones, pitching three innings and giving up 10 hits, 14 runs, four walks, and striking out six. Kynlee Whaley relieved Plyler in the fourth, tossing a hitless, scoreless frame with one walk and one strikeout.

Offensively, Suzanne Rouse led Bethel with a 2-for-2 performance and three RBIs, while Bailey Smith also went 2-for-2. Riley Murphy was the standout for Jones, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Bethel head coach Ashley Stroud praised his team’s performance after the game. “I was proud up and down the lineup, good plate appearances, and when we got something in the strike zone, we put the bat on it,” Stroud said. “Very pleased with the progress from last night to tonight.”

Emersyn Smith reflected on her performance, saying, “I was just giving it my all and trying to do the best I could, and I think I saw the results.”

Next week, Bethel will travel to Parrott Academy for a game on Friday, while Jones will play a home-and-home series with East Carteret.
