North Lenoir Senior Trinity Robinson Signs to Cheer for the College of Charleston

In a rare and remarkable achievement for cheerleaders in the area, North Lenoir High School senior Trinity Robinson has signed to cheer for the College of Charleston. Robinson, one of the senior captains of the North Lenoir cheer team, led her squad to numerous victories this year, including triumphs at the Lenoir County Fair, the Wayne County Fair, and clinching the East Central Conference Championship.

Robinson's journey has been one of dedication, sacrifice, and relentless effort. Reflecting on her achievement, she said, "I feel like it is surreal; it is bittersweet. I am definitely leaving high school with a huge mark, with me and my teammates. I am super excited to go and be a Cougar and show them how the Hawks do it."

Her journey did not stop at local success. Robinson was selected for the prestigious Cheer Extreme national team, where she went on to win a national championship. This accomplishment has set a high bar for future cheerleaders in Eastern North Carolina, demonstrating that with hard work and dedication, national recognition is within reach.

Her mother, LaPorscha Gardner, who has been a significant influence both on and off the mat, praised her daughter's hard work. "She has worked really hard. This year, she really had to step up to the plate and decide if she wanted her senior year or if she wanted to pursue cheer at a higher level. She chose to push herself to be more appealing at the collegiate level. She tried out for Cheer Extreme, and they put her on a world team, which is still beyond me. Two times a week, she drove to Raleigh, and during competition weeks, she went four to five times a week. She lost a lot of time, but I don’t think she regrets any of it."

Trinity's father, Donta Gardner, expressed his pride, saying, "I am very proud. I have been watching her do this since she was a little girl. To see her now going on to college is amazing. Those girls put in the grind; I see them work harder than some guys that play football and basketball. They grind."

Despite the significant commitment required, Robinson never wavered in her dedication. "I think 10 years is a long time of work and dedication, and missing a lot of events that would be important for any teenager, but it all has been worth it. I have spent hours in the gym with myself and my teammates," she said.

Robinson also spoke about being a role model, saying, "I think I am just showing everyone it can be done. Cheerleading is definitely overlooked and doesn’t get the credit it deserves sometimes, but if you really work hard and put in the effort and it is something you truly love, it can be done."

LaPorscha Gardner, reflecting on her daughter's journey, added, "She has by far exceeded anything I have ever done. I think Trinity has the determination; that is something we have in common. We just work hard, and I think she got that from me as well. But she has exceeded me. I stopped at the high school level, and I always just watched college cheer. I just love college cheer and thought it was amazing. So when she actually got the opportunity, I thought it was so surreal."

Trinity Robinson's journey is a testament to her hard work, determination, and the unwavering support of her family. As she moves on to cheer for the College of Charleston, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence and inspiration at North Lenoir High School. Her success has set a high standard for future cheerleaders in Eastern North Carolina, proving that with dedication and passion, remarkable achievements are possible.
