North Lenoir Hawks Charge Past Ayden-Grifton 6-3
AYDEN, N.C. – The North Lenoir Hawks showcased their tennis skills by clinching five of the six singles matches in their face-off against the Ayden-Grifton Chargers. The Hawks would finish the match victorious 6-3 over the Chargers.
In the first singles match, Ayden-Grifton's Jackson Evans (Sr.) defeated North Lenoir's Austin Williams (Jr.) with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory. Despite this early setback, the Hawks swiftly bounced back in the subsequent matches.
North Lenoir's Casey Alston (Fr.) emerged victorious against Ayden-Grifton's Ezekiel Dawson (Sr.) in a tightly-contested second singles match, winning 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). The third singles match saw North Lenoir's Josh Hardy (Sr.) secure a decisive win over Cody Suggs (Sr.) of Ayden-Grifton with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
In the fourth singles match, Zachary Yarus (So.) from North Lenoir overpowered Ayden-Grifton's Owen Baxter (Sr.), securing a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory. The fifth singles match featured North Lenoir's Maddox Smith (Fr.) defeating Tremayne Phillips (Sr.) of Ayden-Grifton with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
The final singles match of the day was a nail-biter, with North Lenoir's Jared Carlyle (Sr.) battling it out against Ayden-Grifton's Kolby Smith (Jr.). The Hawks' impressive performance was finished off when Carlyle won with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
In the doubles matches, the Hawks dropped the first and third matches but picked up an 8-1 win in the second match with Josh Hardy and Maddox Smith defeating Cody Suggs and Tremayne Phillips.
The Hawks have won four of their last five matches, with one loss coming to undefeated Riverside-Martin (9-0). With four matches left on the regular season, North Lenoir is setting themselves up for a strong playoff run.
