North Lenoir Golf Team Seeks Conference Title
LA GRANGE, N.C. – As the golf season progresses, the North Lenoir Hawks are making waves in the conference, securing the top spot and setting their sights on regional and state championships. The Hawks' home turf, Falling Creek Country Club, an 18-hole par 71 course, has been the training ground for their impressive season.
The Hawks started the season off blazing as they won their first four games.
Leading the team is Lee Rogers, boasting a 78-stroke average, followed closely by Ridge Henson with a 91-stroke average. Rounding out the top four are Cooper Tilghman, with a 92-stroke average, and Tanner Whitley, coming in with a 98-stroke average. The team's performance has been nothing short of remarkable, thanks in part to the dedication of Head Coach Chris Evans.
Evans shared his preseason goals, stating, "Our goal was to win the conference, (currently sitting in first place with one match to go) qualify as a team for regionals, and then place high enough to go to the state championship." With North Lenoir in a prime position to achieve these goals, it's clear the Hawks have taken their coach's vision to heart.
During the season, the team has practiced diligently for two and a half to three hours after school, and their hard work is paying off. Evans noted the overall improvement in his players, with a special mention for Cooper Tilghman, who has made the most significant strides in his game.
As the postseason approaches, Coach Evans remains optimistic about the Hawks' prospects. "To compete at a high level at regionals and have a chance to qualify as a team for states," he said, outlining his expectations for the team in the crucial final stretch of the season.
With one match left to secure their conference title, the North Lenoir golf team is focused and determined, aiming to make a lasting impression at the regional and state championships.
