NNS Male Athlete of The Week
This week NNS male athlete of the week goes to Arendell Parrott Academy's sophomore golfer, Wesley Blair. Blair notched a spectacular hole-in-one at New Bern Country Club on March 14, 2024. Achieving this rare feat on the 12th hole—a daunting 221-yard par-3—Blair showcased his exceptional talent, marking his second career ace from an impressive distance.
Finishing the round with a solid score of 74, Blair's landmark shot not only highlighted the day but also earned him accolades from APA's coach, Nathan Perry. "This is a pretty cool achievement. Some people go a lifetime without seeing a hole in one from that distance," Perry noted, underscoring the rarity and significance of Blair's accomplishment.
For Blair, the hole-in-one was a much-needed boost during an otherwise challenging round. "It was awesome, I was really excited. I wasn't playing good, so it helped a lot," he said, reflecting on the moment's impact on his game.
Off the course, Blair draws inspiration from his father, J.W. Blair, a significant influence in his life and golf career. "My dad has taught me everything there is about golf, and he has had three hole-in-ones, so I gotta catch him," Blair shared, highlighting his aspirations to follow in his father's footsteps.
Blair's pregame routine includes fueling up with his favorite meal—takeout chicken mini’s from Chick-fil-A—and getting into the zone with "Even Flow" by Pearl Jam, a team anthem that epitomizes their collective spirit and dedication.
