Mudcats Take Commanding 2-0 Series Lead over Wood Ducks in Kinston Showdown
The Carolina Mudcats triumphed over the Down East Wood Ducks in the first two games of their series at Grainger Stadium, taking advantage of early scoring opportunities and strong pitching performances. The Mudcats now lead the series 2-0, with both teams holding 5-5 records.
In the opening game on Tuesday, the Mudcats capitalized on a four-walk inning and a hit-by-pitch to score two early runs against the Woodies' starting pitcher Ramirez, who exited the game early. Despite a run scored by the Wood Ducks in the second inning off an RBI single from Abi Ortiz, the Mudcats maintained control throughout, ultimately winning 5-2.
The second game on Wednesday saw the Mudcats continue their dominance, scoring five runs in the first four innings while holding the Wood Ducks to just one run until the eighth. JoJo Blackmon's solo shot in the eighth inning brought the Woodies within three runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Mudcats' early lead. Carolina's Jimenez picked up the win, pitching five innings, allowing four hits, and striking out five batters. Mudcats' closer Shane Smith earned his first save of the season.
Game three of the series is set for Thursday, April 20th, at 7:00 p.m. at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, NC. Fans attending the game can look forward to a giveaway koozie sponsored by MedSource Pharmacy and the UPS Store, as well as $2 select domestic beers on Thirsty Thursday.
