WOODINGTON – Heath McLawhorn put together a career performance to help the Woodington Raiders cruise past Contentnea Savannah School, 13-3, in Monday’s conference opener.

McLawhorn went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run, a triple, and a single, finishing with two RBIs and three runs scored. His highlight-reel homer came in the third inning, pushing the Raiders’ lead to double digits in front of their home crowd at 4939 U.S. 258.

The game was effectively decided in the first inning when Woodington poured in nine runs. Cannon Sumner’s two-RBI single, Jacob Burkett’s two-RBI triple, and McLawhorn’s RBI triple fueled the early explosion, while Tanner Herring and Richie Racobaldo each drew bases-loaded walks.

Axel Ard earned the win in relief, tossing two no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Jonas Joyner started and Sumner added 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, combining to limit CSS to just three hits.

Burkett, McLawhorn, Sumner, and Winston Faircloth each drove in two runs, while the Raiders stole eight bases and didn’t commit a single error defensively. Burkett led the way in the field with six putouts, and the team turned two double plays.

Britt went 2-for-2 to lead Contentnea Savannah School at the plate, while Nobles, Allen, and Britt each collected RBIs.

Up Next: Woodington (4-1) travels to Frink Middle on Thursday for another conference matchup.
