McKinley Turner’s Clutch Bat Powers Woodington Raiders Past CSS, 19-0
KINSTON — McKinley Turner turned in a career game at the plate Wednesday afternoon, driving in four runs on two hits—including a three-run inside-the-park home run—as the Woodington Raiders rolled to a 19-0 win over CSS in dominant fashion.
Turner wasted no time making an impact, singling home a run early in the 11-run first inning before blasting a three-run inside-the-parker to cap the frame. Lyndsay Philyaw also went deep with a solo inside-the-park home run, while Blaire Howard, Madilyn Parker, and Kassidy Simmons all contributed with RBI at-bats during the opening surge.
Woodington (5-2) added to its lead in the second with a pair of extra-base hits. Emily Jones doubled down the left field line to score one, and Reagan Bumgarner followed with a triple to center. A CSS error allowed another run to cross, stretching the lead to 14-0.
The Raiders tacked on five more runs in the third. Chesleigh Moore and Simmons delivered RBI singles, Jones added a fielder’s choice that scored two, and Bumgarner capped the scoring with her fourth hit of the afternoon.
Bumgarner was equally lights-out in the circle, striking out eight over three scoreless innings. She allowed just two hits and didn’t issue a walk. The Raiders were clean defensively for the third straight game, committing no errors behind her.
Woodington pounded out 16 hits in total. Bumgarner finished 4-for-4 at the plate, while Moore, Howard, and Philyaw each collected multiple hits. Moore and Parker led the running game with multiple steals as the Raiders swiped 10 bases.
CSS was led offensively by Dalila and Kayden, who each recorded a hit. Dalila also started in the circle, allowing 17 earned runs on 16 hits through three innings.
Woodington improves to 5-2 on the year and continues its hot streak heading into the next stretch of games.
