Local Athletes Shine at NCHSAA State Indoor Track Championships

This past weekend, the NCHSAA State Indoor Track Championships at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem showcased exceptional talent from across the state. Local athletes from Greene Central and Kinston High Schools made significant contributions, achieving commendable individual and team performances.

Greene Central High School

  • Boys High Jump: Junior DJ Williams soared to a second-place finish with an impressive leap of 6 feet, 4 inches, earning 8 points for his team.

Kinston High School

  • Boys High Jump: Senior Okie Edwards secured a seventh-place finish, clearing 6 feet and adding 1.5 points to Kinston's team total.

  • 55-Meter Hurdles: Sophomore Darryl Parham clocked a time of 8.29 seconds, placing 11th in the state.

  • 55-Meter Dash: Junior Ex'Zavion Croom finished 9th with a swift time of 6.62 seconds.

  • 4x200-Meter Relay: The team, comprising Okie Edwards, Elijai Sumpter, Shamar Miller, and Ex'Zavion Croom, secured a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:35, contributing 2 points to the team's score.

In the overall team standings, Greene Central High School amassed 8 points, placing them 28th out of 49 scoring teams. Kinston High School accumulated 3.5 points, resulting in a 39th-place finish.
