Lady Patriots overwhelm Heat for a 41-30 victory
For the second consecutive night, the Lady Patriots of Arendell Parrott Academy won on their home court. The Lady Patriots hosted the Heat of Liberty Christian and used a dominating second half to secure the victory. The Lady Patriots trailed the Heat 22-12 at halftime but outscored the Heat 29-9 for the 11-point victory after halftime.
“I'm really proud of how we came out in the second half. We challenged them at halftime to have a great defensive effort, push the pace, and we did that in the second half,” Head Coach Henry Piner said after the win.
The Lady Patriots were led in scoring by #11 Valli Blackwelder and #15 Sydney Myers. The pair each scored 10 points in the victory. #7 Ellen Jones added 7 points and point guard #1 Callie Sanders contributed 6 points for her team.
Coach Piner’s team got off to a rough start to the season. The Lady Patriots lost eight consecutive games before their first win. Coach Piner knew at the beginning of the season that it would be a challenge for his young squad. The Lady Patriots are a young team with only one senior.
The win brought the Lady Patriots' record to 5-16 (3-8 in conference play). The Lady Patriots will be on the road to start their conference tournament. Their opponent is TBD, but we know that they will play Tuesday, 2/6/24.
Coach Piner’s team showed extreme growth during the season. It might not have been the season that the first-year coach had dreamed of, but the growth and development of his young team will prove beneficial in years to come.
