Lady Patriots Lose to Fayetteville Academy
The Arendell Parrott Academy Lady Patriots hosted the Fayetteville Academy Lady Eagles Friday evening. The Lady Patriots lost the game 30-31, dropping their record to 0-4. This was their second consecutive game in as many nights, marking another instance of the team's on-court improvement.
APA Head Coach Henry Piner expressed ecstasy once again with his team's performance. From the season's start, Coach Piner anticipated struggles for his young team, but four games in, signs of coherency and growth are evident.
“We fought hard; I was really proud of them. Everybody contributed defensively and offensively. Our defense kept us in the game,” Coach Piner remarked after the loss. The Lady Patriots were tied with the Lady Eagles at halftime, 16-16, and had a chance to win it at the buzzer.
Leading the Lady Patriots in scoring was #11 Valli Blackwelder with 9 points. #13 CJ Blackwelder was second in scoring with 8 points. #32 Julia Begelman scored 4 points in the loss but for the second consecutive game, she battled on the defensive side to hold the Lady Eagles to a minimum.
Looking ahead, the Lady Patriots will host two home games next week. They are set to play Pungo Christian Academy on Tuesday, followed by a matchup with Wilson Christian Academy on Thursday. Having shown significant strides in their play over the past two weeks, the Lady Patriots are eyeing their first win next week.
