Lady Hawks win 3-1 over Wallace-Rose Hill

LAGRANGE--The North Lenoir Hawks' softball team maintained their strong start to the season with a victory over conference opponent Wallace Rose-Hill, improving their overall record to 5-1.

The Hawks, who are 2-0 in conference play, faced a formidable opponent in the 7-3 Wallace Rose-Hill, fresh off a 2-0 loss to South Lenoir. North Lenoir, on the other hand, entered the game riding high after a 10-1 win over Southwest Onslow.

Pitcher Hallie Fowler secured the win for North Lenoir, throwing five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run, striking out one, and walking just one batter. Madilyn Rouse continued her hot streak, hitting a home run in back-to-back games. Rouse's 2-run homer came in the fifth inning with the game tied 1-1, breaking the deadlock and propelling the Hawks to victory. Rouse also pitched two innings, giving up one hit and striking out five batters.

North Lenoir's coach Bobby Hatcher is in his first year coaching the Hawks, and so far he has been pleased with the Lady Hawks development.

"I’m proud of the girls tonight. The energy and focus were there," Hatcher said. "They put together some good at-bats and got some timely hits. Both pitchers threw very well, hitting their spots and keeping their batters off balance. Our defense made some big plays behind them."

Rouse has hit three home runs in her team's first six games this season.

"I'm seeing the ball well and just focusing on solid contact." Rouse said.

The team is off to a great start this season and playing great team ball.

"We are playing good ball and focusing on keeping our energy level up." Rouse said. "Things are clicking, and it feels good to be 5-1 right now. We just got to keep things up."

Other notable performances from the game included Hallie Fowler going 0-2 at the plate with one walk and two runs scored, Rouse going 2-3 with one run and two RBIs, and Alivia Whitley going 2-3 with one RBI.

With a strong start to the season and focused players, the North Lenoir Hawks look to keep rolling against North Pitt tomorrow at home.
