Kearney Throws No-Hitter as North Lenoir Hawks Dominate Wallace-Rose Hill 10-0
LA GRANGE, NC — Eli Kearney showcased his prowess on the mound on Thursday, throwing a no-hitter and leading the North Lenoir Varsity Hawks to a 10-0 victory over Wallace-Rose Hill. The win brings the Hawks' season record to 5-1 and 2-0 in conference play.
The scoring began in the second inning with an explosive solo home run from right fielder Blake Crawford, who sent the ball soaring over the centerfield fence.
A surge of offense in the third inning saw the Hawks add four more runs. Tyler Sears and Braden Alphin each drove in a run, contributing to the team's big inning.
Head coach Jackson Massey praised Kearney's performance, stating, "Eli is a front-line guy that can be a one or two on many teams. We don't really look at it like one, two, three. He came out and executed. I am super proud. He puts the work in, and he deserves his moments."
Kearney earned the victory on the mound for North Lenoir, pitching six innings and throwing 69 pitches. He allowed no hits, struck out eight, and gave up no runs. Reflecting on his performance, Kearney said, "Overall, I thought it was a really good job. I just had to stay locked in, throw strikes, and trust my defense behind me."
The Hawks' offense was led by Luke Cannon, Sears, Crawford, Matt Hill, Dj Moye, and Alphin, who each contributed a hit. The team showcased their speed on the base paths, with two players stealing at least two bases. Hunter Coulombe led the way with two stolen bases. The Hawks also displayed flawless fielding, committing no errors.
North Lenoir now looks ahead to a crucial conference matchup against East Duplin (8-1, 2-0) tomorrow night, with the top spot in the conference on the line.
