Ferebee comes through in the clutch Patriots win 10-9 over Faith Christian
The Arendell Parrott Academy Patroits defeat Faith Christian 10-9 in an emotional roller coaster of a game. The Patroits shortstop Mary Pat Ferebee displayed her ice-cold veins with her clutch game winning double.
"She is huge," coach Kristin White said about Ferebee. "We have four senoirs, and I have faith in any of them in that situation."
The Patriots dominated the first half of the game, taking a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning thanks to Faulkner's pitching and some hot bats. Faith Christain quickly responded, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game.
APA immediately responded in the bottom of the fourth when Ferebee hit a bomb off the left field fence, scoring two runners while picking up the triple.
"I thought we really came together even when it got tight," Ferebee said.
Faith Christain did not give up, fighting back to tie the game at 9-9 in the top of the seventh inning. With Claire Mixon on second, Ferebee stepped to the plate with ice cold viens and slapped a line drive double to right-center, scoring the walk-off, game-winning run.
"A lot of pressure," Ferebee said with a smile. "Claire was on base, and I knew I needed to get her in some way, and I had to make it work."
In both of the Patroits wins this season, they have relied on clutch hitting to save the game. Coach White is proud of her girls but not too fond of going down to the wire for the win.
"I am tired of winning like this," coach White said with a sigh of relief and a smile. "We got to play more solid in the first seven instead of fighting through at the end like this."
Ferebee led the team in hitting going 3-5 with a single, double, triple and four RBIs.
