JV Patriots fall to Eagles 46-20

GOLDSBORO—The Arendell Parrott Academy JV Patriots hit the road to face the Wayne Christian JV Eagles in Goldsboro in an unusual Tuesday night matchup. The Patriots fell to the Eagles 46-20. Typically, JV games take place on Thursday nights, but this game was rescheduled due to a field trip that many team members will participate in later this week.

The Patriots spotted the Eagles 14 points in the first quarter. The Eagles, fresh off a win against Rocky Mount Academy JV, exploited the Patriots' defense, catching the attention of Head Coach Clay Harrell. "We’ve got to get better in coverage. Teams that spread it out and throw it on us, we have a little bit of a hard time trying to cover them," Harrell said.

Leading the Patriots was quarterback #10 Chase Davis, who was 3/8 passing for 68 yards. Davis threw a touchdown and an interception in the loss. The touchdown pass was a 49-yard throw to #17 Blayden Pridgen.

In the backfield, #24 Cole Watson tallied 19 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Late in the game, seventh-grader #12 Henry Sutton replaced Davis at quarterback. While Sutton didn’t attempt a pass, he did contribute to the scoreboard with a 70-yard touchdown run.

The JV Patriots will seek to return to the win column when they host Cary Christian JV next Thursday. Despite the loss, the team managed to get many players some action. The future appears bright for this tightly-knit group, and with the culture that Coach Harrell and the rest of the staff instill in these young men, the only way is up!
