Howard’s Five-RBI Outburst Helps Woodington Blank Rochelle 20-0
Blaire Howard turned in a dominant performance at the plate, driving in five runs to lead the Woodington Raiders to a 20-0 rout over Rochelle on Thursday, continuing the team’s mid-season surge.
With the win, Woodington improved to 4-2 on the season, bouncing back in commanding fashion from last week’s road loss to Frink.
Howard jumpstarted the Raiders’ 11-run first inning with an inside-the-park three-run home run. She followed with an RBI double later in the inning and capped off her night with a two-run triple in the second. The junior finished a home run shy of the cycle—collecting all three extra-base hits in just two innings of offense.
Woodington (4-2) continued its aggressive play with a nine-run second inning, sparked by Reagan Bumgarner’s two-RBI single and McKinley Turner’s inside-the-park home run. Howard added her triple to plate two more, while walks and Rochelle errors helped round out the scoring.
Bumgarner also commanded the game from the circle, tossing a three-inning no-hitter. She struck out nine and walked just one batter in a dominant effort. Offensively, she went 2-for-3 with multiple RBIs and stolen bases.
The Raiders finished with eight hits and 10 walks. Sloan Cash and Madilyn Parker each drew two free passes. Howard, Bumgarner, and Turner were among five players to steal multiple bases as the Raiders swiped 10 total. Woodington also remained error-free for the second consecutive contest, with Chesleigh Moore once again leading the defense with eight fielding chances.
Sariah took the loss for Rochelle, allowing 20 runs—12 earned—on eight hits and 10 walks in two innings of work.
