Hawks Fly High on Senior Night

In a momentous senior night filled with emotions and celebration, the North Lenoir Hawks, guided by first-year head coach Cam Sherrer, captured an emphatic 19-0 win over the Kinston squad. This game was particularly significant as it honored the first graduating class shaped under Coach Sherrer’s tenure including three darn good seniors: UNC-W commit Blake Crawford, University of Mount Olive commit Jackson Jenkins, and Lenoir Community College commit Eli Kearney.

“The leadership and the work ethic these guys bring are unmatched,” Coach Sherrer said, reflecting on the senior class. “Man, they mean everything, and I know I’m going to miss them as soon as the season is over.” It’s clear the seniors have made an indelible impact on the program and on Sherrer himself as he navigates his inaugural year.

The game was a dazzling display of the Hawks' prowess, as senior Eli Kearney and the team executed a strategy that put Kinston on the defensive from the outset. The seniors' influence was evident in every play, with each hit and run contributing to a growing legacy.

Ethan Smith, who was moved down the lineup in a nod to the senior players, made a significant impact with a spectacular home run. Coach Sherrer praised his adaptability and dedication, saying, “He has been on leadoff for most of the year, but we moved him down for the seniors tonight. He has been working super hard and found a pitch he could hit and drove it out over the air conditioning unit in center field.” Smith's homer encapsulated the Hawks' spirit — powerfully adapting and excelling.

On the defensive end, the Hawks held strong, not yielding a single error and standing as a testament to the seniors' leadership and the disciplined culture Coach Sherrer has cultivated.

As the night drew to a close, the celebration of the seniors was both a tribute to their high school careers and an acknowledgment of the new era they have ushered in. Coach Sherrer’s poignant words lingered, a reminder of the bittersweet nature of senior night and the lasting bonds formed.

Looking forward, the North Lenoir Hawks will carry the spirit and legacy of their seniors into the remaining home games and beyond. The next test comes against Bunn on Monday, where the Hawks will aim to extend their triumphant flight, driven by the work ethic and unity that have been the hallmarks of their season.
