Hawks Dominate Eastern Wayne, Advances to Second Round of Playoffs
The North Lenoir High School tennis team showed they were fully prepared for the playoffs. The Hawks faced Eastern Wayne High School as they secured their spot in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A East playoffs. The #5 seed Hawks, with a 12-5 record, convincingly defeated the #12 seed Warriors, who held a 9-4 record before the match.
In a powerful display of skill and determination, the North Lenoir singles players brought their A-game:
Austin Williams (Jr.) outplayed Hunter Wolford (Sr., Eastern Wayne) with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Casey Alston (Fr.) showed poise, defeating Christian Torres (Sr., Eastern Wayne) with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Josh Hardy (Sr.) took down Jose Lopez (Jr., Eastern Wayne) in a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Zachary Yarus (So.) charged past Brandon Sutton (Jr., Eastern Wayne), securing a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Maddox Smith (Fr.) demolished Caden Dais (Fr., Eastern Wayne) in an impressive 6-0, 6-0 triumph.
Jared Carlyle (Sr.) toppled Jadon Wren (So., Eastern Wayne) with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
In the doubles matches, North Lenoir maintained their momentum:
Although Eastern Wayne's Hunter Wolford (Sr.) and a teammate managed an 8-6 win against Casey Alston (Fr.) and Austin Williams (Jr.), the Hawks remained unfazed.
Zachary Yarus (So.) and Josh Hardy (Sr.) clinched an 8-2 victory over Jose Lopez (Jr.) and Brandon Sutton (Jr., Eastern Wayne).
Jack Jones (Jr.) and Maddox Smith (Fr.) made short work of Javaire Joseph (Fr.) and Julian Hernandez (Fr., Eastern Wayne), sealing an 8-0 win.
The Hawks now look forward to facing Clinton High School in the second round. The #4 seed Darkhorses, with a 9-2 record, will host North Lenoir next Tuesday at Clinton. Both teams have defeated Rosewood High School with a 9-0 score, so the upcoming match could be anyone's game.
