Greene Central Lady Rams Score Landmark Win Over JH Rose in Greenville

Greene Central Lady Rams Score Landmark Win Over JH Rose in Greenville

GREENVILLE—In a match that will be remembered as a defining moment for Greene Central’s Lady Rams tennis team, they pulled off an electrifying 5-4 victory over 3A conference champions JH Rose. The win took place on the courts of JH Rose in Greenville and has sent reverberations throughout the sports communities.

Medlin's Tactics Pay Off

"With more matches under our belts and experience against solid 3A/4A foes, our girls were up to the challenge. Rose is very good and well coached. Their top 3 players are all worthy of being #1 players on nearly any team," said Greene Central's head coach Tim Medlin.

Entering as the underdogs, Greene Central had an 8-2 record going into the match, compared to JH Rose's perfect 4-0. The victory is even more significant given the away-game setting.

Standout Performances

Grace Baggett and Coley Dyer were the unsung heroes of the evening. Baggett notched a decisive 6-4, 6-0 win at the #4 seed, along with an 8-6 win in doubles. Dyer displayed tremendous grit, pulling out two close sets with 7-5 scores in singles and an equally tight 8-6 win in doubles.

Anna Katherine Medlin Defies Odds

Anna Katherine Medlin's night was nothing short of spectacular. Battling an older, bigger, stronger opponent from a higher classification—while not feeling well—Medlin staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win in singles. She capped the evening by hitting a clean winner in doubles, resulting in an 8-6 win and clinching the team victory. Medlin now boasts an enviable season record of 19-2 and remains undefeated in doubles.

Looking Ahead

With this monumental win, the Lady Rams improve their season record to 9-2 and maintain a pristine 4-0 in conference play. They have a challenging week ahead, facing North Johnston next Monday and Raleigh Charter later in the week—a team that knocked GC out of the playoffs last year.

This landmark win not only adds a feather in GC's cap but also sets the stage for the rest of the season. The Lady Rams are now more than ever a team to keep an eye on as they gear up for their next challenges.
