Burress, Barrow Propel Greene Central to 10-0 Victory Over SouthWest Edgecombe
PINETOPS, N.C. – Greene Central's Braden Burress dominated on the mound Friday, allowing zero runs as the Rams (7-3, 4-0) defeated SouthWest Edgecombe, 10-0, in Pinetops. The victory extended Greene Central's winning streak to five games.
"I was feeling great out there, and my team made it easy on me, making plenty of great plays in the field and scoring early and often," Burress said about his pitching outing.
Leland Barrow provided a significant offensive boost, collecting four hits in five at-bats, which helped lead the Greene Central Varsity Rams to victory. Barrow singled in the first, doubled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.
"The guy on the mound was solid, but I was just on tonight," Barrow said. "I took advantage of anything he threw that was in the zone."
In the first inning, the Rams got their offense started when an error scored a run for Greene Central.
The Rams tallied three runs in the seventh inning, with the offensive onslaught led by Will Radford and Barrow, who both drove in runs.
SouthWest Edgecombe's lone bright spot came from a single by Derrick Davis in the first inning.
Burress earned the win for the Rams, giving up zero runs on four hits over seven innings and striking out nine.
Greene Central amassed 14 hits, with Barrow, Cameron Taylor, Easton Creech, Burress, and Radford each managing multiple hits. Barrow led the way with four hits in five at-bats. The Rams' defense was flawless, not committing a single error.
"Our bats came out of the gates hot! Leland with a four-hit night and lots of offense throughout the lineup helps us a ton!" said Coach Ben Brann.
Dustin Lawson took the loss for SouthWest Edgecombe, lasting four and a third innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out four.
Greene Central will hit the road to face Ayden-Grifton (6-4, 2-2) next Tuesday, March 28th.
