Blue Devils fall to Defending State Champs 54-0
BEULAVILLE—The South Lenoir Blue Devils traveled to Beulaville for a conference matchup with the East Duplin Panthers on Friday evening. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils were defeated by the Panthers 54-0, bringing their season record to 1-8.
Head Coach Will Harrell expressed pride in his team's effort despite the loss, stating, "We could have scored two or three times, but they did a good job of keeping us out of the endzone. We keep grinding and getting better each week."
The Blue Devils faced difficulties in establishing a ground game but found success through the air, which proved challenging for the Panthers. Sophomore Jackson Owens (#11) remained composed in the pocket, finishing the game with a 13/31 passing record for 132 yards and one interception.
From the outset, it was clear that Coach Harrell intended to pass the ball during the game. Three Blue Devils finished with over 40 yards in receiving. Junior Jo’Nathan Kennon (#3) led all receivers with 46 receiving yards.
The Blue Devils will conclude their season with a home game against cross-county rival North Lenoir next Friday. Coach Harrell recognizes the importance of this game for his young program, aiming to finish the season with a win that will propel his team forward.
"It’s going to be an electric atmosphere. We have to come ready to play and continue improving each week," Harrell said about the upcoming game. Neuse News Game Day will be on-site south of the river next week, anticipating an exciting matchup between two teams that have faced challenges this season but will be playing with immense pride.
