Bethel Christian Names Court After Head Coach Legend Bert Potter
Kinston, NC - Amidst the cheers and applause echoing through the gymnasium of Bethel Christian Academy (8-17) , the Trojans faced a tough loss against the Knights of Greenville Christian Academy (17-10). Despite the defeat, the night was filled with emotions of joy and pride as the school community came together to honor a beloved figure in the world of basketball.
Bethel Christian Academy honored their long time coach Bert Potter by naming the court after him. The gym where he won so many games, took tough losses, and most importantly the gym where he taught young men and women so many life lessons is now named after his legacy. Surrounded by friends, family, and former players, Coach Potter stood at center court, visibly moved by the outpouring of support and appreciation.
The game may not have ended in victory, but for Coach Potter, the evening was a triumph in its own right. As he received The NCCSA Bob LaTour Excellence In Coaching award, Coach Potter's humility shone through as he expressed his gratitude and disbelief at the honor bestowed upon him.
"It was quite emotional," Coach Potter remarked, his voice filled with emotion. "I didn't have any idea about this. I'm very honored, but it was also very nervous. I feel like there are hundreds of people who should be up there with me."
Amidst the celebrations and accolades of coaching in the NCCSA for 25 years, Coach Potter remained humble, deflecting the spotlight onto those who had supported him throughout his coaching career. His selflessness and dedication to the game and his players were evident as he reflected on the journey that led him to this moment.
As the night came to a close and the cheers faded into the distance, Coach Potter's legacy remained etched into the court that now bore his name. Though the game may have ended in defeat, the spirit of unity and appreciation that filled the gymnasium served as a testament to the impact Coach Potter has had on the lives of those he has coached and mentored.
For the Trojans of Bethel Christian Academy, the celebration of a beloved coach and mentor will be memorable forever. As they continue their journey through the basketball season, they carry with them the lessons of perseverance, humility, and dedication instilled by Coach Potter, knowing that his influence will continue to guide them both on and off the court.
