APA's volleyball player Mackenzie Landers signs to play for NC Wesleyan
Arendell Parrott Academy is set to send another athlete off to college. Today in the main lobby at APA, senior volleyball player Mackenzie Landers signed to play for NC Wesleyan University this upcoming fall.
"I am super excited," Landers said. "I am really nervous, but I know playing collegiate volleyball is what I want to do, so I am really excited."
Landers was a defensive specialist for the Patriots last fall. Her team went 20-6 on the season and won the conference by going 10-0 in conference play. The defensive specialist played club volleyball with the East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club.
"I definitely attribute most of my progress to East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club," Landers said. "Plus, all of my teammates and coaches have really helped me develop into the player I am today."
Her family was there to support the future Battling Bishop on her signing day.
"I am really excited and super proud," her dad, James Landers, said. "She loved volleyball for so many years, and she puts in the work. Extra practices, one-on-one, she's been working hard all that time. I couldn’t be more proud."
Her mother, Libby Landers, also loved the work she has seen her daughter put into the game.
"She has put in thousands of hours, from morning to sunset, from the backyard to the gym," Landers said. "It's good to see all the hard work she has put in has paid off, and we are very proud of her.
With North Carolina Wesleyan University being only an hour and a half away from home, her dad is definitely happy about the school's proximity.
"As a parent, being close from is never a bad thing!."
