23-24 Girls Basketball Previews: South Lenoir

The South Lenoir Lady Blue Devils, coming off a solid 14-11 season with a stunning playoff upset against East Carteret, are poised for an exciting new chapter under Coach Zach Pierce. In his first year as a varsity coach, Pierce brings a wealth of experience from his athletic background in Richlands High School and his coaching tenure at Contentnea-Savannah and South Lenoir.

Coach Pierce's Journey to South Lenoir

After a challenging but formative coaching start at Contentnea-Savannah, where he led a struggling team to notable improvements, Coach Pierce honed his skills as the assistant coach for South Lenoir's soccer team. His success with the JV girls' basketball team, showcasing significant progress in consecutive seasons, sets a promising tone for his varsity debut.

Defensive Fortitude and Adaptable Offense

Coach Pierce emphasizes, "Defense will be the foundation of any basketball team I will coach." His adaptable offensive strategy will cater to the unique strengths of his players, suggesting a dynamic and responsive coaching approach.

Team Standouts:

Katherine Thompson and Tyazhia Midgett, the newly appointed team captains, are expected to be pivotal in the team's success. Thompson's leadership and three-point shooting skills, combined with Midgett's exceptional court vision and defensive prowess, will be crucial for the Lady Blue Devils.

This team will win if:

“We play together, trust one another and adapt to challenges thrown our way over the course of this long season,”  Coach Pierce.

Season Goals:

I know the conference will be really competitive this year. Ideally my goal is to finish top 3 in the conference and have the opportunity of a conference championship in either the regular season or conference tournament. I would also like to build on last year's playoff success and finish the season with at least one playoff win,” Coach Pierce .

Neuse News Sports Prediction

With the arrival of Coach Pierce, there's an air of anticipation about the new style and dynamics he will bring to the team. The return of standout players like Midgett and Thompson, along with talents like Alexus Haddock, sets a strong foundation. The team's performance in the paint, particularly from players like Gracie Tyndall, will be crucial. I predict the Lady Blue Devils are going to have a great season and fight for a top 3 spot in the conference play, with the possibility of winning conference.
