Raiders Defeat Jones Middle 11-1

Raiders Defeat Jones Middle 11-1

DEEP RUN—The Woodington Middle School Raiders delivered a masterclass in baseball, overwhelming Jones Middle with an 11-1 victory. From the opening pitch, the Raiders seized control, establishing an early lead in the first inning that they would only build upon as the game progressed.

Leading the charge was Liam Barwick, whose bat was a force to be reckoned with. Barwick opened the game with a single in the first inning, followed by another in the second, and then a double in the third, marking a perfect day at the plate over his three appearances. His performance set the tone for what was to be a relentless offensive onslaught by the Raiders.

Christian Wooten wasn't just a marvel in the batter's box; his base-running was nothing short of spectacular, stealing home in the first inning to add to Woodington's growing lead. The second inning saw Wooten, along with teammates Liam, Michael, and Richie, all hitting singles, while Braylon Canady contributed with a double, showcasing the depth and versatility of the Raiders' lineup.

The Raiders continued their offensive barrage into the third inning, combining sharp hitting with aggressive base running to extend their lead even further. However, it wasn't just Woodington's offense that shone brightly; their pitching staff displayed dominance on the mound that left Jones Middle struggling to find answers.

Liam Barwick took the mound as the starting pitcher, delivering a stellar performance over three innings. With a pitch count of just 40—26 of which were strikes—Barwick allowed only one hit and racked up seven strikeouts, facing the minimum number of batters thanks to a savvy pick-off move that neutralized the lone runner to reach base.

Christian Wooten stepped in to close out the game, contributing two innings of work that mirrored Barwick's effectiveness. Wooten threw 40 pitches, 24 for strikes, allowing just one walk and one hit while also notching seven strikeouts. Although one run did score on a throwing error, it did little to tarnish an otherwise flawless outing by the Raiders' pitchers.

Overall, the Raiders amassed 11 hits and two RBIs, coupled with an impressive tally of 13 stolen bases, a testament to their aggressive and smart base running. Despite a single defensive error, Woodington's performance was near impeccable, showcasing their prowess both at the plate and on the field.

As the Raiders prepare to face the Vikings of Rochelle at Raider County on Monday at 4 p.m., their latest victory serves as a statement of intent. With a blend of powerful hitting, strategic base running, and dominant pitching, the Woodington Middle School Raiders are a team on a mission, ready to challenge any opponent that stands in their way.
