Vikings Triumph Over Wallace-Rose Hill
The Kinston High School boys' basketball team defeated Wallace-Rose Hill 71-64 in a dominant performance, keeping the Vikings unbeaten in conference play and setting up a high-profile game against their crosstown rivals, the North Lenoir Hawks, next Tuesday. With this victory, Wallace-Rose Hill's season record drops to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Kinston's stellar record rises to 12-3, including a perfect 5-0 in conference play.
Although senior brothers Khalid and Khalil Sanders are often credited for the team's success, the freshmen guards have been a major factor in the Vikings' achievements this year. Jamarion Washington led all scorers with 19 points, including an impressive 9 points in the first half alone. A remarkable performance was also displayed by sophomore Tyreek Copper, Senior Khalid Sanders, and freshman Keyshawn Herring, who finished with 12, 13, and 11 points, respectively, many of which came from fast-break layups. Isaiah Parsons contributed six more points, highlighting the team's depth of talent. Eight of the twelve Vikings players scored during the game, demonstrating the team's overall strength.
Coach Tyndall remarked, 'We didn't quite get back on track with our performance in the first half of the game tonight, in my opinion. We had no pride in stopping them when we were on the defensive end of the ball. I'm very pleased with our response in the third quarter and the first part of the fourth. All you need to do is play the game smarter until the end.'
The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, January 23rd, where they will travel to face the flying Hawks of North Lenoir High School.
