Lady Trojans Advance to Round 2
First round softball is here and Jones Senior did not disappoint.
The #16 seed Jones Senior Trojans hosted #17 seed Northwest Halifax in a resounding 21-1 victory, marking their first playoff win since May 10th, 2016, when they bested Pamlico 4-3.
Jones Senior head coach Jody Turner praised his team's performance and their mental preparedness, saying, "The thing that pleased me is the way they approached the game tonight. It's a big deal to host a playoff game, so there's all the pressure that comes with those expectations. But they did not allow the moment to be bigger than them."
The Trojans showcased their skills on the field, as Turner added, "They were mentally ready to play tonight. I was happy with their patience at the plate, attacking good pitches in the zone. Pounding out 11 hits and drawing 7 walks with 17 RBIs. They brought energy and great communication on the field. They did Simple Better."
Payten Plyler had an impressive night, both on the mound and at the plate. Plyler pitched three innings, giving up zero hits and one run. At the plate, Plyler went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Olivia Combs also shined, going 3 for 3 for Jones Senior.
The Trojans will now face the #1 seed Pamlico County on May 12th. The Trojans have faced Pamlico earlier in the season, losing both games. Jones Senior is looking to make the upset.
