Bethel Christian Cruises to First-Round Win in NCCSA 2A Playoffs
In the first round of the NCCSA 2A Playoffs, the Bethel Christian Academy Trojans continued their strong form, decisively defeating Hilltop Christian 9-0. With the Trojans finishing the regular season at 16-3, the team aims to sustain their momentum throughout the postseason.
Pitching was the key to the Trojans' dominant performance. Braden Cash delivered a remarkable outing, throwing five hitless innings. He allowed no runs, issued three walks, and struck out nine batters. Reliever Jamey Williams carried the torch, pitching the final two innings and giving up only one hit while striking out four. Together, Cash and Williams effectively shut down Hilltop Christian, setting the tone for the Trojans’ victory.
The offense complemented the pitching efforts, with eighth-grader Jamison Goff leading the charge. Goff went 2-for-2, driving in two runs, scoring once, and stealing two bases. After the game, Goff reflected on his successful outing: “I was seeing the ball really well and he was pitching down the middle. I saw it, and I hit it.”
Jason Turnage also contributed offensively, driving in two runs to extend the Trojans' lead. The Trojans showcased their versatility and depth on both sides of the ball, ensuring a comprehensive victory.
Coach Kenny Sutton praised his pitching staff, particularly Cash, who kept Hilltop Christian's offense off-balance throughout his five innings. “I was looking for some of the guys in the rotation to step in and give me a few good innings, just getting them accustomed to the playoff scenario. It’s always tough games in the playoffs, but my pitcher did well!” Sutton said.
As they look ahead to the next round, Coach Sutton emphasized the importance of maintaining intensity and staying focused. “It’s not like the regular season—playoff ball is different. You’re gonna get everybody’s best shot. Seniors don’t want to put it down, but if we give our best shot, we will be fine.”
Bethel Christian will host Alamance Christian in the second round on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., hoping to continue their playoff journey with the same dominance and cohesion.
