South Lenoir Rallies Past C.B. Aycock in Thriller to Stay Hot in DBC Easter Classic

KINSTON, N.C. — South Lenoir continues to show why it's one of the top 2A programs in the East. The Blue Devils erased a six-run deficit and surged past 3A C.B. Aycock, 12-11, on Monday night in the second game of the DBC Easter Classic at Historic Grainger Stadium.

Trailing 11-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth, South Lenoir (15-2, 9-1) erupted for seven runs on six hits to complete the comeback, with the go-ahead RBI single coming off the bat of Luke Potter to cap a wild inning. The win keeps South Lenoir atop the East Central 2A Conference standings and within the top 10 in the 2A East RPI rankings, sitting at No. 6 as of Monday.

Potter finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and the clutch RBI. Third baseman Reed Davis led the offensive outburst with a perfect 4-for-4 night, driving in three runs, scoring twice, and ripping a double. Catcher Austin Clements went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and outfielder Jacob Howard chipped in a 3-hit, 2-RBI effort.

The Blue Devils collected 17 hits as a team and tallied 10 RBIs. Five players recorded multi-hit games, including Davis, Clements, Howard, Potter, and Matthew Rhodes. South Lenoir totaled five doubles—two from Davis and one each from Potter, Howard, and Noah Rouse.

C.B. Aycock (12-6) stormed out of the gate with an eight-run first inning, taking advantage of walks and timely hitting. The Falcons added runs in the second and third to build an 11-5 cushion before South Lenoir’s late surge flipped the game.

Christian Wooten earned the win in relief for the Blue Devils. The freshman tossed three innings, allowing just one run on one hit, walking two. Braden Barnett shut the door with a scoreless seventh to notch the save. R. Davis and Hayden Marshburn also saw time on the mound for South Lenoir.

Wooten's effort helped steady the game after a rocky start that included five runs allowed in the top of the first.

South Lenoir turned a double play and committed just two errors, while the Falcons finished with six hits and were charged with two errors of their own.

The Blue Devils now shift focus to Rosewood, who they face Tuesday at 4 p.m. in their final game of the DBC Easter Classic. South Lenoir will then finish the regular season with back-to-back road games against Wallace-Rose Hill and North Lenoir. With playoff positioning on the line, every inning now matters for South Lenoir.
