South Lenoir Names Brandon Battle as Head Basketball Coach

South Lenoir High School announced this morning the appointment of Brandon Battle as the head coach of their basketball team. Battle took over from Thomas Earp in February after Earp stepped down for personal reasons during his first year as head coach. The official announcement solidifies Battle’s role following his interim position last season.

Battle stepped into the head coaching responsibilities mid-season and made an immediate impact. His debut game as head coach saw South Lenoir secure a decisive 79-56 victory over East Duplin, marking a 23-point conference win. Previously, Battle served as the JV head coach, where he led the team to an impressive 16-4 record last year, and a 12-4 record the year prior.

The South Lenoir basketball team has struggled in recent years, finishing with a 4-19 record last season, a 4-15 record in the 2022-2023 season, and a 4-17 record in the 2021-2022 season.

A 2015 graduate of South Creek High School, Battle continued his education at North Carolina Wesleyan before finishing at East Carolina University in 2021. He began his coaching career at South Lenoir in August 2022, contributing to both the football and basketball programs.

"I am very excited to begin my journey as the head coach of this basketball team," Battle stated. "The talent and potential of these players are very high, and I can’t wait to see what we will achieve together in the seasons ahead."

Under Battle’s leadership, South Lenoir looks forward to building on their success and aiming for greater achievements in the upcoming basketball seasons.
