Roberts: Mid-Season Softball Grades
Kinston Vikings Varsity Softball (0-8) is off to a rough start. The Vikings are not experienced at certain positions on the softball field, but are looking to build personnel for the future. Their letter grade right now is a (D).
Jones Senior Varsity Softball (3-3) is a good softball team. The Trojans are playing well; they just had three tough losses, two of them coming to powerhouses. Look for the Trojans to hit a winning streak in the second half of the season behind their senior Lynn King. Their letter grade is a (C+)
South Lenoir Varsity Softball (6-3) started off with a crazy tough schedule. The Lady Blue Devils are on fire right now, on a 5-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 50-2 during the streak. MG Beyer and Makalya Sasnett will lead the Blue Devils through an important stretch of the season, including a matchup with a cross-town rival and a conference opponent in North Lenoir (7-2). The Lady Blue Devil's grade is a (B+).
North Lenoir Varsity Softball (7-2) is rolling under first-year head coach Bobby Hatcher. Madilyn Rouse has the Lady Hawks playing together, and they are all on one accord. The Hawks have a huge game coming up against cross-town rivals and conference foes, South Lenoir (6-3). North Lenoir graded an (A).
Arendell Parrott Academy Varsity Softball (2-3) is off to a rocky start. The Patriots have won some exciting games but also let some games get away. APA is probably the youngest team in their conference, However, they have some very good senior leaders in Mary Pat Ferebee, Kaytlin Corbett, Elizabeth Atkins, and Isabel Faulkner that are capable of turning the season around. Their grade is a (C+).
Bethel Christian Academy Varsity Softball (2-2) is off to a good start. The Trojans, a young team with one senior, will be a very good team next year and have a chance to have a successful season this year. The Trojans grade is a (C+)
Greene Central Varsity Softball (0-11) is winless so far this season. The Rams have only one senior, but they just haven’t figured it out yet. Greene Central is young, and they will be good in the next few years. The Rams grade is a (D-)
