Rams Rally to Clinch Victory Over Beddingfield
WILSON, NC – The Greene Central Rams (6-8) delivered a stunning performance on the road, defeating the Beddingfield Bruins (10-2) with a score of 62-52. This victory was particularly sweet for the Rams, as they sought redemption following a close 60-58 loss to the Bruins in their previous encounter in Snow Hill.
The game started with a neck-and-neck battle, culminating in a 15-15 tie at the end of the first quarter. Michael Suggs Jr. led the charge for the Rams, scoring six points in the quarter and finishing the game with a total of eight points. The Rams then shifted gears, seizing a four-point lead by halftime, thanks in part to Zhamir Mack's five points in the second quarter and his total of 11 points for the game.
Head Coach Blue Edwards lauded Mack's performance, saying, “He came in and gave us a big lift. When he is knocking down his threes, it opens up everything else.”
Despite the Bruins' efforts to contain Denelly Coppedge in the first half, he came alive in the second, scoring eight points in the third quarter alone. This surge helped the Rams extend their lead to seven points by the end of the third quarter.
As the game progressed, the Rams faced a familiar scenario – leading by nine points, reminiscent of their previous matchup. However, they were determined not to let history repeat itself. A crucial moment came when Coppedge executed a thunderous dunk, electrifying the Greene Central fans and halting the Bruins' comeback attempt.
Reflecting on the team's mindset, Coach Edwards said, “We came in focused on not wanting to make the same mistakes we made last time versus Beddingfield. We need to learn how to finish basketball games.”
The victory over Beddingfield marks the Rams' second consecutive win, setting a positive tone as they prepare for their next challenge: a conference game against West Craven (6-4) on Friday night. This upcoming match is crucial for the Rams as they continue to build momentum and refine their game strategy for the remainder of the season.
