Rams Rampage: Unbeaten Streak Hits Sweet 16
The tide has indeed turned between Greene Central and West Craven. From 2018 to 2022, the Eagles claimed victory in 6 out of 8 games against the Rams. However, the narrative has shifted dramatically as Greene Central now rides a 3-game winning streak over the Eagles.
Tuesday's 7-1 victory over West Craven not only pushed the Rams' unblemished record to 16-0 but also builds their resume for an highly predictable top seed in the upcoming playoffs. Greene Central is currently ranked ninth statewide out of all classifications and currently have the #1 RPI in 2A east.
Austin Hardy, Greene Central’s pitching standout, delivered another commanding performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters and surrendering just four hits. Despite a frustrating start, Hardy swiftly recalibrated to showcase his top form.
"After the first three innings, that was the best Austin has thrown all year," lauded Coach Ben Brann.
The Rams' offense was a precision-engineered machine against West Craven. With Will Radford drawing three walks and still nabbing 2 RBIs, discipline at the plate was on full display. Noah Uzzell's vital single and an RBI by Easton Creech, who went 2-for-3 with one run scored, were the initial thrusts in a relentless scoring onslaught.
Yet, for Coach Brann, the evening's game centered on chances unseized. "I think the story of the night was we left way too many people on base," he reflected with the insight of a strategist seeking perfection. "We've got to convert a couple more at-bats."
Despite riding the crest of a 16-game win streak, Coach Brann projects a team on the cusp of reaching its full potential. "I don't think we have played our best baseball yet," Brann stated confidently.
"I think our best baseball is in front of us,” Coach Brann stamped.
Looking ahead, the Rams are set to face Southside in Chocowinity tonight at 6:00 pm, ready to extend their reign and inch closer to their untouched potential.
