Patriots Take Down Bethel Christian, Extends Win Streak To Four Game
Written by: Jayden Willis
The Parrott Academy Patriots came into last night's game against the Bethel Christian Academy Trojans on a three-game winning streak. After a slow first half for the Patriots, they used an amazing second-half performance to extend their winning streak to four games.
The Patriots were on the road last night for their game against the Trojans as the private high school basketball season is underway. The first quarter for both teams was a struggle offensively, both missing shots they normally make. The Patriot's defense led the way for the team this quarter, forcing the Trojans to commit many turnovers.
“Bethel they came out and tested us, gave us a run the whole game, said Head Coach Landry Gainey. “They tested us and kept us honest, it was good”.
Both offenses seemed to calm down and settle into a rhythm in the second. Trojans junior forward, Jamey Williams knocked down a few threes to help his team's offense this quarter. Patriots sophomore guard, Chase Jones facilitated his team's offense with timely scoring and a few flashy assists. Jones’ play helped the Patriots go into half on a 10-2 run and end the first half up 33-25.
“Bethel just played harder than us the first half and we had to pick up the intensity, said Landry”. “I thought we executed a little bit better and made a couple of bunnies we didn’t make in the first half.”
The Patriots looked like a team on a three-game road winning streak to start the third quarter. The offense seemed to score every time it went down the floor this quarter. Chase Jones continued to control the Patriot's offense on this run. Combining with senior center, Fletcher Jones for a dominant inside-outside duo. For the Trojans, it looked as if they lost all their momentum at the half as they would miss shots that were going in during the second quarter. This led to the Patriots going into the final quarter up 46-31.
It was more of the same for both teams for most of the last quarter in the game, The Trojans mounted small runs to cut the lead, but the Patriots would go on a run of their own to keep in control of the contest. The Patriots would win with a final score of 57-45. Led by Chase and Fletcher Jones. Fletcher with 12 points and Chase with 17 of his own.
“We have been playing hard the last few games, that is four in a row now all on the road, said Landry.”
The win pushes their double-digit road winning streak to four games and their overall record to 6-2. The Patriots hope to use this momentum that the winning streak has given them to extend their streak against the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles. With the loss the TroJans record sits at 2-4, the team hoping to get a big win against the New Bern Christian Academy Mustangs.
