Patriots fall to Eagles 52-14 on the road
The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots traveled to Rocky Mount to face the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles in a conference matchup on Friday evening. The Patriots fell to the Eagles by a score of 52-14. This loss dropped the Patriots to 2-2 on the young season.
The Patriots fell behind early after the Eagles returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Eagles also added two more touchdowns in the first half. The Patriots found the end zone twice in the second quarter, leading to a 22-14 deficit at the half.
Coach Matt Beaman acknowledged that his team was sluggish coming out of the gate for their 7:00 kickoff. "We came out flat. We were able to stop the bleeding in the first half and cut it to a one-score game," Beaman said.
The Patriots got the ball to start the second half but had a drive that stalled. After that drive, it was all Eagles. The Eagles put 30 more points on the board and held the Patriots out of the end zone to secure the 52-14 victory.
The Patriots' two touchdowns were orchestrated by quarterback #9 Caleb Sanderson. Sanderson scored the first Patriot touchdown on a 3-yard keeper. He connected with #6 Jeremy Snipes on the two-point conversion. The second touchdown that Sanderson accounted for was a 60-yard pass to #5 Jaylen Solomon. Sanderson went 13 of 27 for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Solomon recorded seven catches for 99 yards in the loss. He also had 13 rushes for 48 yards. The leading rusher for the Patriots was #54 Mason Mooring with 81 yards on 10 carries. #3 Ben Barrett also recorded five catches for 65 yards.
The Patriots will look to bounce back next week as they return home to host Cary Christian. When asked about the preparation for his team leading into their next home game after this loss, Coach Beaman was matter-of-fact and straight to the point. "It's gut check time, and we are going to find eight people that want to play physical football this week in practice," he said.
This performance was not one that the fans of the Patriots are used to seeing on the field. However, we know that Coach Beaman is an excellent coach and will help his team learn from this loss and be ready to play next Friday.
