North Lenoir's Shamaya Lynch Signs with NC Wesleyan

Shamaya Lynch, a senior point guard from North Lenoir High School, has signed to play basketball at NC Wesleyan. Lynch, a three-sport athlete, has excelled in track, basketball, and volleyball throughout her high school career. She played all four years on the varsity basketball team, following in the footsteps of her siblings, including most recent Treshad and Ashanti Lynch.

Reflecting on her achievement, Lynch said, “It feels good. I feel like all my hard work has paid off. I have worked so hard over the last four years, and being able to sign is just a great time. I am very excited to play basketball at the collegiate level.”

Lynch also spoke about how her siblings inspired her: “Seeing them sign and go play basketball at the collegiate level really showed me that I am capable of doing that. If I work hard and put in the time and effort, I can achieve it. For my younger siblings, I am just trying to be a great role model to show them that anything they want to do is possible.”

Heather Carson, North Lenoir's Athletic Director and Lynch's volleyball coach, praised her impact: “Maya helped lead our volleyball team to a conference championship. She got more confident each year. We are so, so proud of you, Maya, and wish you much success.”

Basketball coach Howard Wooley added, “She has played basketball all four years, getting better each year, and led the team in most categories. Her hard work and dedication have definitely paid off. As a freshman, there were a lot of things she thought she could improve on. She stayed in the gym late nights, early on Saturdays, or whenever there was an opportunity. She has watched a lot of film and improved. We are super proud of her and wish her continued success at the next level.”

An emotional Lynch addressed her auditorium full of fans and family, saying, “Thank y'all for supporting me throughout the four years. Your support has driven me to be a better person. I am really excited to play basketball at the next level, and I thank y'all so much for all of your support.”

Lynch's journey from North Lenoir to NC Wesleyan is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and the inspiration she draws from her family and community. As she steps onto the collegiate stage, her legacy at North Lenoir will continue to inspire future athletes.
