North Lenoir Wrestler Signs to UMO

LA GRANGE, N.C. — Everett Rouse, a senior wrestler from North Lenoir High School, has made a significant leap in his athletic career by signing a National Letter of Intent with the University of Mount Olive. Rouse, known for his technical skills on the mat and academic prowess with a 4.5 GPA, has become a beacon of dedication and hard work.

Reflecting on his journey, Rouse acknowledges the effort behind his success. "I am very proud, I worked very hard, I put in all the time that I could," he says. This commitment is evident in his impressive performance last season, securing second place at regionals and a spot in the state qualifiers.

Rouse's summer was a testament to his dedication, as he attended three national wrestling camps, including two Purler camps and the Jeff Jordan State Champ Camp in Ohio, sharpening his skills and strategy.

The role of his brother, Channing Rouse, has been instrumental in Everett's development. Channing, both a sibling and coach, instilled a rigorous training regimen that Everett adopted since his sophomore year.

"Last season, he had me wake up at 5:30 every morning and we would go two hours before school, and then we would practice after school," Everett recalls, highlighting the discipline that has shaped his wrestling career.

Channing speaks to Everett's transformation over the years. "He was honestly rough around the edge starting out," Channing says. "He came to me one day and said he wanted more training besides the normal practice. So we started two-a-days and three-a-days... He is super competitive even though he is not the biggest and strongest guy, he is very technical, that's where I wanted him to be."

Their father, Reid Rouse, echoes this sentiment of pride, not only in Everett's wrestling achievements but also in his academic success. "Everett has put in a ton of work, he has done so with the help of his brother," Reid states. "Not only am I proud of his wrestling, what he accomplish in wrestling but I'm proud of his academics."

Crissy Rouse, Everett's mother, also shares her pride and relief. "I am very proud of him, he has worked really, really hard. Offseason, instead of having an offseason his senior year, he traveled the country going to different camps to help him get better," she says, adding, "We are super proud of him and we are also happy it's 22 miles away."

Addition to Channing being his coach, North Lenoir head Wrestling coach Jeff Yourdon has been a been inspect on Rouses wrestling career.

“He is the best coach I have ever had, I wouldn’t be here without him,” Rouse said about Yourdon.

As Everett Rouse sets his sights on the University of Mount Olive, he carries with him the hopes and expectations of his family, coaches, and the local sports community. His story is a vivid reminder of how passion, coupled with relentless training and family support, can pave the way to success.
