North Lenoir Tennis Dominates Ayden-Grifton in Season Opener
North Lenoir’s boys' tennis team opened the season in dominant fashion, sweeping Ayden-Grifton across all six singles and three doubles matches for an emphatic victory.
The Hawks showcased their depth and experience as their top seeds set the tone early. Casey Alston led the charge at No. 1 singles with an 8-0 win over Macon Daugherty, while Maddox Smith, Zachary Yarus, Tyler Carson, Timothy Wiggins, and Asher Yarus each followed suit with convincing victories in their respective singles matches.
In doubles play, North Lenoir continued its strong performance. Asher Yarus and Tyler Carson secured an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Evan Smith and Hayden Hall fought off a competitive 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Adam Romig and Caleb Espino rounded out the sweep with another hard-fought 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
Head coach Scott Alston praised his team’s effort and was particularly pleased with the contributions from younger players.
"We had a great win today versus a young AG team that’s just getting on their feet," Alston said. "Our upperclassmen and top seeds performed well, and a lot of our freshmen got to pick up their first wins of their high school career."
With a strong showing to kick off the season, North Lenoir looks poised for another successful year on the courts.
