North Lenoir Splits Doubleheader at Spring Creek

By Kymonte Roberts, Neuse News Sports

The North Lenoir basketball teams traveled to Spring Creek on Friday night for a boys-and-girls doubleheader, with the boys securing a dominant win while the girls fell in a tough contest.

Boys’ Basketball: Hawks Soar to 66-46 Victory

North Lenoir’s boys’ team improved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 66-46 win over Spring Creek, expanding on their earlier 46-38 victory at home. This marks the Hawks' third consecutive win over Spring Creek, giving them a 3-1 edge in the series since 2014.

The game turned chippy in the second half but was largely out of reach for the Gators after the third quarter. North Lenoir held a slim 10-3 lead after the first quarter but saw Spring Creek close the gap to 28-21 by halftime. A commanding 26-point third-quarter effort pushed the Hawks to a 54-37 advantage, paving the way to the 20-point final margin.

Anton Black paced North Lenoir with 16 points, while Julian Veal added 14 and Jaquell Gardner finished with 12. Malik Fuller and Jakell Cannon contributed 7 and 5 points, respectively.

North Lenoir, now 2-0, will host Southwest Edgecombe on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Girls’ Basketball: Spring Creek Bounces Back to Split Season Series

On the girls’ side, North Lenoir (1-1) could not replicate their earlier 46-38 win over Spring Creek, falling 57-40 in a physical rematch. The Gators (2-2) rode a dominant performance from senior center Heather Alexander, who controlled both ends of the court and finished with 18 points.

For North Lenoir, freshman sensation Cassidee Fraser continued her hot start to the season, scoring 23 points to maintain an impressive 21.0 points per game average. Amiah Jones added 9 points but could not overcome Spring Creek's defensive adjustments and offensive rhythm.

North Lenoir will look to regroup as they prepare to host Southwest Edgecombe on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
