North Lenoir JV falls to James Kenan
The North Lenoir Hawks JV team hosted the James Kenan JV Tigers on Thursday evening, suffering a 46-8 loss. The defeat dropped the Hawks to a 1-8 record for the season, while the Tigers maintained their flawless 7-0 record.
The Hawks' performance was marred by special team errors and offensive turnovers. They lost four fumbles, fueling the Tigers' persistent rushing attack. Despite the 46-point loss, the defense showcased some bright spots.
In the first quarter, the Hawks effectively contained the run. When the Tigers faced a fourth-and-goal from the 10-yard line, a stop seemed likely for the Hawks. However, the Tigers converted on the run and took an early 8-0 lead.
Following a fumble on the Hawks' first drive, the Tigers aggressively advanced down the field. Yet, the Hawks' defense stood strong, halting the Tigers on a fourth-and-one at the one-yard line. The Hawks regained possession, but a subsequent fumble in the end zone resulted in a safety.
From that point, the Tigers dominated both the field and the scoreboard. Nonetheless, the Hawks managed to score as the fourth quarter neared its end. Quarterback Jaquell Garner (#6) connected with running back Braxton Myers (#2) on a 3-yard touchdown pass. Running back Davione Lynch (#12) contributed with a successful 2-point conversion on the ground.
Garner ended the game 2/4 in passing for 13 yards and one touchdown, along with 51 rushing yards on 10 carries. Myers recorded two catches for 13 yards and 48 rushing yards on six carries. Lynch amassed 42 rushing yards on eight carries.
The JV Hawks aim to bounce back next week as they host the JV Blue Devils of South Lenoir. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
