SNOW HILL – The North Lenoir Hawks (2-0) traveled to Snow Hill on Thursday night and delivered a commanding performance, sweeping the Greene Central Lady Rams (2-1) in straight sets. Fresh off a 3-0 victory over Nash Central in their season opener, the Hawks continued their dominant run with a decisive win over the Lady Rams.
North Lenoir wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an imposing 25-11 victory in the first set. The second set saw the Lady Rams struggle to find their footing, as the Hawks maintained their momentum, cruising to a 25-14 win. Despite a spirited effort from Greene Central in the third set, North Lenoir remained in control, sealing the match with a 25-10 triumph.
Brooklyn Payne led the way for the Hawks with an outstanding performance, contributing 15 service points, 5 aces, and 12 assists. Laykn Whitley was equally impressive, recording 16 service points, 2 aces, 3 digs, and 8 kills. Alyssa Hatcher added 6 kills, 3 blocks, and 10 assists, while Fawn Creech bolstered the Hawks' defense with 4 blocks. Haley Hemby rounded out the standout performances with 5 digs.
Following the match, North Lenoir head coach Heather Carson expressed her satisfaction with the team’s aggressive start. "We just wanted to come out and be aggressive from the get-go, and I think we did that," Carson said, noting the Hawks' 11 kills in the first set. "Now we are just trying to figure out, trying to mesh, get things clicking, and we are getting close. The message to the team was, ‘Keep working. We are not letting up. We want to get better with every game and practice.’"
On the other side of the court, Greene Central head coach Emily Lahr acknowledged the challenges her team faced as they continue to adjust to a lineup featuring several new players. "Right now, I've got some of the calmest athletes I've had, but we've got to get them to find that fire," Lahr said. "Once we find that, we will do a lot of damage." Despite the loss, Lahr was pleased with her players’ ability to adapt. "They were able to make corrections, take the coaching, and change what needed to change. Sometimes it just doesn’t work in your favor, but I'm happy with it."
Next up for North Lenoir is a road match against Pamlico on Tuesday, while Greene Central will look to bounce back when they face Eastern Wayne on August 20.
