Lady Blue Devils Hold On To Win 10-8 Against Lady Hawks
The South Lenoir Lady Blue Devils and the North Lenoir Lady Hawks met on the diamond Thursday night to renew their cross-county rivalry. The Lady Devils outlasted the Lady Hawks 10-8 in the matchup. The fans from both teams saw an exciting back and forth game that did not disappoint.
In the 5th inning, the Lady Hawks were down 5-1. They scored 6 runs in the bottom of the inning. Lady Hawks starting pitcher, Maddie Rouse had a 3 –run homerun that sparked her team to the lead.
The lead would not last long as the Lady Blue Devils would score 4 runs in the top of the 6th to take the 9-7 lead. Callie Tyndall recorded a 2 out double to score two runs in the inning to give her team the lead. Tyndall’s two rbi’s would be enough to give her team the win.
This was the first loss of the season for the Lady Hawks who fell to 6-1 on the season. With the win, the Lady Devils improved to 5-3. South Lenoir Head Coach Madison Harvey was very proud of her team's performance in the win.
“We knew they (North Lenoir) were going to be really competitive, and it's always more competitive between the two schools. My girls came out and they were ready to go, and they did what they had to do”, Harvey said after the game.
North Lenoir Had Coach Bobby Hatcher was also proud of his team's performance in the loss. “They played hard, down 5-0, come back to take the lead, they showed heart. Thats all we could ask of them”, Hatcher said.
Looking ahead for both teams, the Lady Blue Devils will play a home and home series with James Kenan next week. The Lady Hawks will also play a home and home series with East Duplin next week.
