NNS Male Athlete of the Week

This week, Neuse News shines the spotlight on Greene Central's Austin Hardy, snagging the Athlete of the Week title, all thanks to NC Senator Jim Perry. Fresh off the recovery path from surgery, Austin's been nothing short of spectacular on the mound, striking out 28 of 33 batters over two games. Yeah, you read that right—28 strikeouts!

Coach Ben Brann has nothing but good stuff to say about Austin. "He's been working super hard behind the scenes, especially after that surgery last summer. Took a bunch of rehab, but look at him now!" And on Austin's recent games? "Totally stellar. He's got his pitches doing exactly what he wants, controlling the game like a boss."

When we caught up with Austin, he shared a mix of nerves and excitement about getting back in action post-surgery. "Wasn't sure how I'd do this year after the UCL surgery, but feeling awesome now. I know the team's relying on me, so I just go out there and do my thing."

Austin's quick to share some of his faves too. Mimicking the legendary Randy Johnson on the field, jamming to rap before games, chowing down on ACP (Arroz con Pollo, for those not in the know), and when he's not making batters whiff, he's all about hunting and running dogs.

So, hats off to Austin Hardy! Coming back strong and showing us all how it's done, all while keeping it cool with his unique pre-game vibes and off-field hobbies.
