LCC Announces Jorja Tuten as Next Head Volleyball Coach

Lenoir Community College is excited to announce that Jorja Tuten will take over as head volleyball coach at the conclusion of the 2024 season. Tuten has served as the assistant volleyball coach at LCC for the past two seasons. She is also the director of Carolina Performance, a volleyball club based in Kinston. Carolina Performance is a successful travel volleyball program for junior girls and boys, which recently completed its third season.

Before coaching, Jorja experienced a high level of success as a player. She played on Arendell Parrott Academy’s varsity team all four years of high school under Coach David Barnes. During her time at Parrott, she started all four years as defensive specialist/libero. Her team captured four conference championships, made three state championship appearances, and won two state titles. After high school, she went on to play at Wake Technical Community College while pursuing her nursing degree.

Current head coach David Barnes will step down at the end of this season to join his wife, former LCC Athletics Director Shelly Barnes, in Forsyth County. LCC Director of Athletics Ryan Meadows said “We are grateful to Coach David Barnes for his leadership and dedication to the program over the last six years, and are excited for the future of LCC volleyball with Coach Tuten at the helm.”
