Lancers Weekend Review
Saturday:
BASEBALL: In their first two games of a three-game series, the Lenoir Community College Lancers baseball team traveled to Brunswick CC. Game one saw Tyler Thompson take the mound, putting in a strong performance according to Coach Smith, perhaps his best yet at LCC. Despite Thompson's efforts, two early hits proved to be the winning runs for Brunswick, as the Lancers fell 2-0 in the first game of the series.
Game two: Brunswick wins after scoring four runs in the seventh inning and Lancers couldn’t recover falling 8-6.
Sunday:
BASKETBALL: Cape Fear Community College played host to the Lenoir Community College Lancers in the semi-finals of the Region 10 Basketball Tournament, as the two teams faced off in the highly anticipated "Battle of the Border" but Lancers fall short 90-79 to Pitt Community College.
The Lancers got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing by 17 points at the half, with the Pitt Community College Bulldogs in control of the game. The Bulldogs continued to increase their lead, reaching a 26-point advantage at one point in the second half.
But the Lancers refused to give up. With heart and determination, they mounted a comeback, chipping away at the lead and pulling within five points in the final three minutes of the game. Despite their best efforts, however, the buzzer ended the game.
Leading the charge for the Lancers were Jarious Williams with 22 points, Davion Carroll with 16, and Kavon Brown and Caleb Hymon each contributing 13 points. James Carrol added 9 points, while Quantavis McKinney chipped in with 6 points. Despite the loss, the Lancers put up a valiant effort and should be proud of their performance in this intense and closely contested battle.
BASEBALL: It was a great day for baseball and an even better day for the Lenoir Community College Lancers, who emerged victorious in their home game against Brunswick CC. The game got off to a fast start, with Brunswick jumping out to an early lead with one run in the first inning, before adding three more runs. The Lancers answered back in the fifth inning, scoring five runs of their own.
Leading the way for the Lancers were Tanner Cannon, who had a strong performance with 2 runs, 3 hits (including a home run), 3 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases. Cameron Greenway also had a solid game with 1 run, 5 hits, and 1 RBI, and Isaac Elvira contributed with 1 run, 1 hit, and 1 RBI. On the mound, Cullen Tucker pitched for 5.1 innings, while Thomas Hill, Jarrett Hall, and Brandon Warren each contributed innings, with Warren earning the win.
The final score was 6-5 in a Lancers win. It was a well-played game by both teams, but the Lancers came out on top and should be proud of their performance.
