Lancer Drop Home Match 3-1

Lancer Drop Home Match 3-1

The Lenoir Community College Lancers hosted the Sandhills Community College Flyers Thursday night in an exciting volleyball match. The Lancers came out on fire and won the first set 25-23 before losing three straight sets 25-14, 25-19 & 25-17.

The loss drops the Lancers to 3-2 to start their season. Their only other loss was two weeks ago to the same Flyers team on the road. Lancer Head Coach David Barnes was proud of his teams performance even with the loss, praising them for making adjustments from their prior matchup with the Flyers.

“First time we played them, their middles hur us severely, tonight we sealed the middle…We improved greatly on them hurting us in the middle”, Coach Barnes said. Barnes went on to say; “There were spurts where we passed well and spurts where we didn’t. When we served and passed well we were in control of the game, when we didn’t, they were”.

The Lancers were led in attacking by Freshman #12 Peyton Kimber. The Middle Hitter had 17 kills on 32 attetmpts. Freshman #1 Maddie Horner led the team with 5 aces in the losing effort. The Lancers while outmatched in height and depth truly missed having Freshman #6 Aysia Whitley on the court tonight.

Whitley did not play in the game due to injury. Whitley leads the team with 49 kills in the first four games. “The girl (Whitley) who was injured, last time we played Sandhills, she was our leading hitter. She is a big blocker and a real big hitter”, Coach Barnes said.

Looking forward, the Lancers will have a few days to prepare as they are back on the court at Central Carolina on September 10th. Even after a loss against a formidable opponent, the Lancers will take the good things from tonight and look to grow as a team as their long season continues.

Coach Barnes finished his remarks tonight with a clear message that he shared with his team, “We would have liked to win tonight. But we got better tonight”.
