Lady Patriots Improve to 5-1 After Home Win Against Lady Knights
KINSTON—For the second consecutive night, it only took three sets for the Arendell Parrott Academy Lady Patriots to win their match. The Lady Patriots hosted the Greenfield Lady Knights and won three straight sets: 25-13, 25-10, and 25-16.
The win is the fourth in a row for Coach Lee Avery and his team, and the first conference win of the season. The third set was not as dominant as the first two; however, great plays and continued communication on the court helped the Lady Patriots prevail.
“The girls stepped up in the first two sets, and they played like we needed to play in system, and we served tough. We let it get away from us in the third; they kind of relaxed too much, I think,” Coach Avery said after the win.
The Lady Patriots were led by Junior #10 Georgia Fanning and Senior #13 Sydney Myers. Fanning recorded a team-high 11 kills, 2 aces, and 1 block. Myers led the team with 4 aces and 5 kills. Freshman #3 Jaiden Lucas led the team with 15 set assists.
The Lady Patriots will now turn their attention to a road match against Coastal Christian on Thursday evening. “We’ve got a really tough game coming up in Coastal Christian. I hope we can go out and play like we did in the first two sets (tonight),” Avery remarked.
The Lady Patriots have lost the last seven contests against Coastal Christian, including three times last season. Coastal Christian will prove to be another fierce competitor for the Lady Patriots as they look to continue to ride their early season momentum.
