Lady Patriots Edge Rival Lady Saints in 51-37 Victory
KINSTON — The Arendell Parrott Academy Lady Patriots faced off against the John Paul II Lady Saints on Friday night in a highly anticipated rivalry matchup. Both teams came out hungry for a win, but it was the Lady Patriots who emerged victorious with a 51-37 final score.
With the win, the Lady Patriots improved to 15-4 on the season, while the Lady Saints dropped to 17-3. Parrott head coach Garrett Blackwelder was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Our mission statement is to improve through hard work all year, to be encouraging and optimistic teammates, and to play harder than our opponents. We did all three of those things tonight, and we happened to win,” Blackwelder said.
The Lady Patriots were led by senior Sydney Myers, who scored a game-high 21 points.
“She had poise and made shots. She was also a vocal leader on the court, which was great,” Blackwelder said of Myers’ performance.
Julia Beagleman contributed 10 points, while Anna Grace Bailey and Caroline Stocks each added seven points in the victory.
The Lady Patriots will enjoy the weekend before finishing their regular season next week. They will travel to Cape Fear Academy on Monday, host Wayne Christian on Tuesday, and head to Greenville on Wednesday for a rematch against the Lady Saints.
“They (JPII) are going to be really hungry to get us back, so we’re looking forward to playing them again,” Blackwelder said.
