DEEP RUN— Callie Tyndall delivered a phenomenal performance for the South Lenoir, pitching a complete game shutout and leading the team to a 9-0 victory over West Bladen on Tuesday.
In the first inning, the Lady Devils got their offense started, scoring one run when Makenzie Herring doubled. They added four more runs in the fourth inning, led by singles from Makayla Sasnett and Payton Bryan, another hit by Herring, and a groundout by Gracie Howard.
South Lenoir coach Madison Harvey credited their success to the team's preparation. "We prepared for the pitching, something in the zone pretty quick also our bunt defense," Harvey said. Offensively, the coach was pleased with the team's performance, noting, "we hit the ball great, left a lot of runners on base but we were still able to capitalize."
Tyndall's shutout performance in the circle was the highlight of the game. The righty allowed zero runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. On the opposing side, Rylee Chachwick pitched for West Bladen, allowing four hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none.
The South Lenoir bats were alive as they collected 12 hits in total. Carley Boone, Tyndall, Sasnett, and Herring each had multiple hits, with Herring, Sasnett, Tyndall, and Boone leading the team with two hits each.
Coach Harvey shared her strategy for the game, saying, "I told the girls if you score and win every inning, we won't have anything to stress about." This mindset seemed to work well for the South Lenoir as now they await their next opponent between #4 seed Midway and #29 seed Whiteville.
